This week’s Fab Photo Friday is a tale of photography wins and a complete fail. Well, maybe not complete, the photo is interesting, to say the least, but definitely not a win.
I went for the eclipse. My husband and I had talked about it for a year and had spent the summer planning a trip to Wyoming to be in the line of totality. I had charged two batteries and brought two SD cards, in case one didn’t work. I packed the tripod and even the camera manual, just in case I needed to fix or adjust something on the camera. I had everything I needed, all for 2 minutes.
Except one little thing.
There is a little square piece that screws into the bottom of my camera. It makes it very easy to pop into the tripod. That little piece is what I did not have. I have no idea why it was not even on my camera because there is absolutely no reason to take it off. But I didn’t have it. And I couldn’t connect my camera to the tripod. It is pretty hard to take photos of the eclipse without a tripod. Pretty much impossible.
How’s that for a shot, huh? I tried to make do and used a small gorillapod to attach my camera to the tripod. Why I have that gorillapod is beyond me, those things are completely worthless. The camera shook everytime I pushed the shutter. And this is what you get when the camera shakes.
But the most important thing out of the whole incident is the memory in my brain. The moment I saw the sun disappear through my special welder glass and looked at the eclipse with my naked eyes. That moment will live on and remain tucked away in a little corner of my brain. I had seen partial eclipses before, both solar and lunar, but a full eclipse….there is absolutely nothing like it.
It is simply divine.
So at that moment, I took that sign from the universe and enjoyed the rest of my 2 minutes of beauty, mindful of all that surrounded me.
And as I returned home with my memories, I went through the photos I took on the plane ride up to Wyoming. They turned out better than I thought they would. There were gorgeous clouds and stellar land formations. And I am happy to share them with you.
