It is something that I have been doing for over 20 years and have never given this name to it before. Even though this practice has been around since the philosophers of Ancient Greeks and Buddhists, I have never really put it all together. Until now.
I have fiddled with many of the techniques of mindfulness, little bits, here and there. It is come and gone many times over the years, in fact, this is the third different blog that I have started. Things have come a long way and I have learned many, many new things. And in the last 8 months of writing this blog, one I know now that I will keep, my plan has finally come to fruition.
When I started this blog, I knew I wanted to incorporate more of the “other” things in my life, besides art. So I put art on the back burner and wrote about travel and photography. Which I love and inspires me all the time. During that time, I allowed myself to also develop my inner writer. I really needed that. I also took the time to find online communities that would support my blog. That, my friends, is huge. No one likes sharing their work to an absent audience.
In the background, I still created artwork but never had a direction on how I was going to incorporate it back into the blog. I had little shares here and there but it never really felt right. After reading 5 books, learning to meditate, an entire notebook of notes, and countless art journaling, I had an aha moment. It is time for years of learning to finally come together and I am so excited to share it with you.
I am going back to teaching art. I have enjoyed it in the past but there was always something in the way. When I was in college, it was a great summer job, but I could only do it for the summer. Then I had babies. Then those babies grew and I just wanted to spend time with them. They are much older now and I believe that is why I felt the urge return. As they demand less of my time, I feel comfortable giving my attention to other things I love. I always knew that one day I would teach an art retreat. It is one of my dreams. And now is the time I am finally ready to accept that opportunity. I have lots of classes to share with you online and on location. I hope you are ready to hear all about them!
