Summer mode has taken over. The days are filled with sunshine and there is much to be discovered outdoors. We spent some time on the road for a few weeks and that left me with lots and lots of photos to edit. I still have to go through some more (it is my least favorite thing to do), but in the meantime, I had some time to play with some new watercolors I recently purchased.
I have also been doing a little reading about creative mindfulness. I have more to say about this subject as it is truly captivating for me…but, more on that another time. Right now, can we just get lost in how 2 colors can dance next to each other so beautifully? That’s better. Can we just get lost in how 2 colors can dance next to each other so beautifully? If you have kept tabs on my artwork, you know that I love real actual media as much as I love digital media. There is NOTHING like actual paint on paper that can be duplicated like the real thing. But, there is this feeling of discontent that happens when you paint something you are not sure is going to work. Digitally, you erase the layer in Photoshop. Actual real paint, you may have messed up everything.
The photo above. I was feeling some SERIOUS discontent.
So this is how it sat for a couple of days. Soon to be tossed away into the garbage. I escaped into nature and went hiking for an afternoon. Getting out into nature always seems to clear my head and I was due for some serious mental floss.
In my art classes in college, I was taught to put things aside and let things lull for awhile before deciding ultimately what to do with art pieces. Lots of people keep everything. I am not lots of people. I purge. So after giving this a couple of days, I came back to my little piece and gave it a final chance.
There is something to be said for those final chances.
Never give up.
Just keep going.
Push on, push hard.
There is a quote that I love by Jean Giraudoux. ” A woman is a creature who has discovered her own nature”. I thought that was very fitting for this piece. What do you think? I would love to hear it in the comments.
