I was back at my art desk the other day with a sudden inspiration. I was looking through itunes for some new jams, and stopped at a CD media cover with a design that had a repetitious pattern all held within a circle. And suddenly, I knew I wanted to paint some flowers, all within a circle. Crazy how these things happen, right?
I call these moments, episodes. When these “episodes” occur, watch out, I drop everything. I just sit down and paint. No cleaning, no blogging, no communication with anyone. (Sorry, if I haven’t gotten back to you yet).
This is the way I paint now, on my Wacom Cintiq. It is a 13″ mini monitor that I paint on with a special stylus pen. Before I found this little treasure, it was real paint mixed together on a canvas. And I loooovved that process. But the thing is, I would start a painting and many times never really finish it because of the drying process or because I tried something that just didn’t work out.
For example with this painting, I knew I wanted many colors. I threw in some greens and purples and had I used real paint, I am not sure I would have like it when purple and orange mixed together. And I definitely would have had to wait to lay the yellow on top of the purple. I just don’t have that kind of time anymore like when I was in college and I could paint all night.
