It’s funny how things happen. I was unpacking my watercolors today from the trip and I am sad to admit, I did not touch them at all. So today, feeling slightly ashamed, I thought I would at least put down a wash of colors because sometimes you just have to begin. Serendipitously as I was waiting for the paint to dry, I came across a post on Facebook that a friend had posted. It was a video by Michael Franti, singing a song about love. And there it was…love needs you.
Well, doesn’t it right now? More than any other time, in all of my adult life, have I felt more of a need for peace and kindness and love. There are many things that are not right, not good…and completely fixable. It leaves unsettling in my stomach and worry in my heart. The other day, President Obama tweeted a quote by Nelson Mandela that went viral. It was perfect.
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion … if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.”
How will you show love today?
